# Klappa > Klappa is a free spaced repetition flashcard app for students, built for exams where forgetting is expensive (medicine, dentistry, nursing, and anyone with a lot to remember). It imports Anki decks with each card's schedule, schedules reviews with FSRS-6 plus its own FMSR-1 model, explains cards with an AI that answers from a curated medical library and marks its sources, runs live questions in class, and connects Claude or ChatGPT to your decks. It runs on the web and on Mac; the iPhone and iPad app is submitted to Apple and not yet on the App Store. Klappa is free, with no paid tier. Full text of every page: https://klappa.app/llms-full.txt ## Key facts - Price: free. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no ads. Klappa Cortex (AI) and Klappa Live (classroom) are included. - Platforms: any modern web browser at https://klappa.app, and a Mac app for macOS 11 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel builds). iPhone and iPad: submitted to Apple, not yet available. - Offline: the Mac app studies with no connection and syncs grades when you reconnect. The website needs a connection. - Scheduling: FSRS-6 (21 trained parameters, a retention target you choose, 90% by default). In Study and Learn, Klappa's own FMSR-1 model adjusts how long a review card waits using that card's own history, and leaves FSRS-6 unchanged when history is thin. - Study modes (Klappa decks): Flashcards, Learn (multiple choice), Write (typed answers), Test (a graded practice test). Anki Portal decks: flashcard review. - Anki import: the Anki Portal imports .apkg files with note types (including custom templates), deck hierarchy, images, audio, cloze, image occlusion, and each card's schedule (interval, due date, ease, lapses, and FSRS values when Anki stored them). The per-answer review log is not imported. Decks export back to .apkg, with review history optional. - Size limits: the website accepts .apkg files up to 1.9 GB. The downloadable apps have no upload cap; they are limited only by device storage. - AI (Klappa Cortex): opt-in. Answers from a curated medical library and marks the passages it used; explains a card's answer choices in Learn. It never reads your decks. - Classroom (Klappa Live): questions on a projector, answers from every phone or laptop, live results, and an end-of-session host report exportable as CSV or PDF. Students can join without an account. - AI assistant connector (Klappa MCP): connects Claude or ChatGPT to your decks over OAuth 2.1 with 19 tools, scoped to your own account. - Privacy: account information is never sold; no ads or advertising identifiers. A pseudonymized study dataset may be licensed for learning research, and a user's reviews are included only if they turn the licence on and confirm they are 16 or older. Accounts can be deleted from Settings. - Built by: Fahim Mohi, a dental student, who built Klappa for his own exam decks. ## Klappa compared with Anki - Klappa opens the Anki decks you already have (.apkg), schedule included, and exports back to .apkg. - Both use FSRS; Klappa adds FMSR-1 in Study and Learn. - Klappa decks study four ways (Flashcards, Learn, Write, Test); Klappa adds Cortex (sourced AI explanations), Live (classroom quizzes) and the MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT. - Klappa is free on every platform it ships on; AnkiMobile (iPhone) is a $24.99 one-time purchase in the US. - Klappa is independent and not affiliated with Anki. Yes. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no ads; Cortex and Live are included. - Can I use my Anki decks? Yes. Export an .apkg from Anki with scheduling and media included, then import it in the Klappa Anki Portal; each card keeps its schedule. - Is there a free Anki-compatible app for iPhone? Klappa is free and its web app runs in Safari on iPhone today; its native iPhone app is submitted to Apple. - Can I study offline? Yes, in the Mac app. The website needs a connection. - Does Klappa's AI read my decks? No. Cortex answers from a curated medical library and marks the passages it used. - Can I leave? Yes. Anki Portal decks export back to .apkg, any deck saves as a .klappa file, and the account can be deleted from Settings. ## MCP connector (for AI assistants) - Connector URL: https://mcp.klappa.app/mcp - Auth: OAuth 2.1 (Claude.ai web and ChatGPT) or a Bearer kl_live_ API key (CLI / desktop) - Tools: list/create/delete decks and note types, create and search cards, generate atomic flashcards with AI, bulk-inject a deck, fetch what's due, get a learning profile / weak topics, rate cards, and optimize cards you keep missing. New decks and injected cards go to the user's Klappa library by default, or to the Anki Portal when the assistant passes library "anki"; deck lists and search results label which library each item is in. All tools are scoped to the authenticated user's own account. - Setup: in Klappa go to Settings > Integrations, generate an API key, then add the connector URL in Claude or ChatGPT and authorize on the Klappa screen. - Human setup guide (tools, scopes, revocation): https://klappa.app/mcp.html ## Policies - Privacy Policy: https://klappa.app/privacy.html - Terms of Service: https://klappa.app/terms.html ## Contact - Support: fahimmohi1024@gmail.com
